Scripture Texts: 1 Samuel 16:1-13
Sermon: The Training of a King
In 1 Samuel 16:1-13, David is anointed by the Prophet Samuel to be the next king of Israel. But then David goes back to tending his flocks for months (maybe years). And then when he does become Israel's hero, he is on the run for over a decade before he actually becomes the true king of the land. Why the delay? Find out this Sunday as we continue our Life of David series!

Discussion Questions
Ice Breaker Question:
What household or yardwork chore do you dread the most?
Discussion Question
1. Have you ever experienced a season of "monotony" or "drudgery" in your life like David did in his Shepherd days? What do you think God was trying to teach you during that time?
2. What is the most difficult aspect of going through these times of drudgery? What part of your life feels monotonous right now? Where do you feel like nothing is happening?
3. Do you know of anyone in your life or our church community that exemplifies faithfulness in the small things? What sticks out to you about them?
4. What are some truths from this portion of Scripture that can encourage us to pursue growing in character, especially through what seems like drudgery?
